Matt Dahl's new book Butterfly Teardrops is hard to describe. The words are intriguing, witty, smart, painful, sexy, and healing. Some poems are full of love, some of longing. Some share sorrow and pain, with topics life death, divorce, suicide and unrequited love. Other issues dealt with are alcoholism, breaking negative cycles, anorexia and eating disorders, having sex with a prostitute, overcoming drugs and drug addiction, and facing the death of a sibling, a brother or sister's death.
Take for example the poem Amiss. Like Romeo and Juliet, Romeo & Juliet, the persona of this poem, not unlike 1996 movie starring Claire Danes and Leonardo DiCaprio, shows a person remiss about cupid's arrow struck amiss.
This book has a bit of everything. There's pictures of skateboarders and religious statues and even a young nude female seductively waiting for her lover. Whether you are full of angst or love or passion or joy or sorrow or melancholy or horny or bored or whatever fills your soul, you will enjoy Butterfly Teardrops.
