Butterfly Teardrops

take your soul off mute

...a free sample poem from Matt Dahl's Butterfly Teardrops...

Sometimes Peace

When the spring rain stops and the smell is sweet,

When it’s four a.m. and no cars fill the street

That’s when I find it.

When I’m building forts with blankets and quilts,

When I leave the booth absolved of my guilt

That’s when I find it.

When a quiet pool reflects the sun,

When the work was hard but now it’s all done

That’s when I find it.

When the summer is hot and the dragon flies hover,

When I find a surprise in a note from a lover,

When I see a deer stepping out from the corn,

When the night goes to sleep and a new day is born

That’s when I find it.

When I catch a glimpse of the dolphin’s grace,

When I imagine a smile and my mind sees your face…

That’s when I find it.
